Rice Bagging Parties

Typically it all starts before the "Rice Bagging Party" begins. The rice and beans are ordered in advance from a discount warehouse and an additional savings is realized. The day of packing about 3000 pounds of rice, several hundred pounds of beans, and other foods like tortillas, peanut butter, and canned goods are loaded into vehicles.

The vehicles then transport the goods to the Vista Lobos Room in Carmel, California where volunteers are gathered and ready to engage in a united spirit of giving charitable service. A human chain forms and the 50 pound bags of rice and beans are unloaded and passed from the vehicles into the building.

This all happens rain or shine.

Inside the Vista Lobos Room more volunteers separate the large bags of rice and beans into smaller bags that can be distributed to families in need. The food is all divided and boxed, and then returned back out of the building to waiting vehicles to be loaded and transported to various distribution points. This process repeats on the first Sunday of each month, and helps to feed between 1,000–1,500 people! Rice plus Project is a combined effort of volunteers who mingle, have fun, and celebrate the joy of giving.

  This is the party!

Turkey Drive

Thanksgiving is a time when families and friends come together to celebrate peace and prosperity. With enough donations we can help provide as much as 30 to 50 families with a Thanksgiving meal that they might otherwise be unable to afford for themselves. With increased donations we can help to feed even more families.

Gift Wrapping Party

At Christmas time volunteers gather to wrap gifts that are then given to less fortunate children who in most cases may otherwise not experience this holiday cheer. The Rice plus Project wraps, and sorts somewhere between 800–1,000 purchased gifts that are distributed to children appropriately by age accordingly.
